For tens of thousands of eastern Europeans Jews in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, South Philadelphia was their first home in America. Today, for perhaps 400 mostly elderly residents of the neighborhood - adult children of the immigrant generation - South Philadelphia is still home.
