The Slave Trade Archives Project, initiated by UNESCO, is concerned with the access to and preservation of original archive materials relating to the slave trade. [...] The countries foreseen as participating in the project at this stage are: Angola, Benin, Brazil, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haïti, Mozambique, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Senegal, and Togo. [...] The outcomes of the project will be: - Documents (catalogues and digitized images) displayed through the Internet and available for use internationally; - Preservation of the information contained in the most valuable materials through digitization; - Increased international co-operation in the interpretation and use of sources, development of the topic of the slave trade, and improved co-operation in professional services in several countries; - Information and communication technology equipment and Internet connection provided for up to 15 participating countries, together with on-site training."
