Stadtarchiv und Stadtbibliothek sind seit 1976 ein gemeinsames Stadtamt unter der Leitung des Archivdirektors; seit 1999 erweitert um die Bibliotheken des Roemer- und Pelizaeusmuseums zum Fachbereich Archiv und Bibliotheken.
