"The Centre for Studies of Science, Technology and Society offers a programme of teaching and research devoted to the study of the complex interplay between science, technology and society from historical as well as contemporary perspectives. Science and technology are crucial factors in shaping the dimensions of modern society. An understanding of how science and technology develop and how they are related to socio-economic forces, cultural values and political influences, is intellectually challenging and highly socially relevant. The complexity of the STS domain requires a multidisciplinary approach. The staff members, project researchers and PhD students in the Centre have different scientific backgrounds. A group of twenty-five social scientists, historians, policy scientists and philosophers – often having a background in natural sciences or engineering – work together on a variety of research projects."
