History of Science, Technology and Medicine [University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign]

"As science and technology increasingly pervade and define our culture, it becomes more important to understand their history. The Department of History offers an opportunity to examine currently debated issues like nuclear disarmament, health insurance, research ethics, and new information and reproductive technologies in an historical light. Six faculty members Professors Richard Burkhardt, Rayvon Fouche, Lillian Hoddeson, Evan Melhado, Mark Micale, and Leslie Reagan teach courses and direct research in the history of biology, physics, technology, chemistry, public health, medicine, psychiatry, anthropology, and science policy. Graduate courses that have been or will be offered treat a wide range of topics of current interest, among them, Darwin and Evolutionary Thought, Zoos and Animals, Science and Technology During the Cold War, The Information Age, Big Science, Disease and Society, History and Theory of Reproduction, Medicine and Law, and Public Health. Graduate education in the history of science, technology and medicine is further enriched through contacts with programs in other disciplines, including Sociology, Philosophy, Library, and Information Science, Communications, Women's Studies, and Urban and Regional Planning."
